Our work
The African Leadership Academy (ALA) aims to promote ethical, entrepreneurial and transformative leaders able to contribute to Africa’s development. Accordingly, the ALA brings together the most promising young leaders from 45 countries in Africa for a two-year pre-university program in South Africa that focuses on leadership, entrepreneurship and African studies. The ALA continues to encourage these leaders throughout their lives, at university and beyond, by providing ongoing leadership and entrepreneurial training, and connecting them to networks of people and capital that can contribute to large-scale change.
Key impacts
The Louis Dreyfus Scholars Program
At the ALA, the Louis Dreyfus Scholars Program sponsored one student demonstrating a strong interest in sustainable agriculture and food security. The US$60,000 grant covered full tuition fees for 2 years, travel and visa costs, university guidance and boarding.
The Louis Dreyfus Foundation Award for Entrepreneurship in Agriculture
Run by the ALA, the Agricultural Anzisha Prize is Africa’s premier award for young African entrepreneurs, recognizing innovative solutions to social challenges or successful entrepreneurship in local communities. The Louis Dreyfus Foundation Award for Entrepreneurship in Agriculture was part of the Anzisha Prize, and was awarded to three young entrepreneurs having had a meaningful impact on their communities.
