Our work
Previously supported through the Foundation’s Fund for Young Entrepreneurs in Agriculture, the program has been extended and is now run on a standalone basis across six states in Nigeria, in partnership with Springboard. Aiming to improve income generation and food security through women and youth empowerment, the program focuses on organic farming and entrepreneurship training to equip participants with the relevant skills to start their own agricultural enterprises. Unlocking the potential of agriculture can generate significant job and income opportunities and alleviate food insecurity, in the context of the country’s heavy reliance on food imports.
Key Impacts
The project previously involved some 150 disadvantaged young farmers and entrepreneurs from ten villages. Running it on a standalone basis has allowed the project to be scaled up to include 50 participants per state. Organic food production will generate additional income and new employment opportunities, helping to alleviate poverty and reduce urban migration, while improving food security and nutrition, and creating the conditions for more sustainable agriculture.

Springboard engages young people from rural and semi-urban areas in personal development and social change through sustainable agriculture. The aim is to improve food security, reduce local youth unemployment and discourage urban migration – key causes for the high crime rate in Nigeria.
